How Can I Get Rid of Lower Back Pain?


There are many causes of lower back pain and seeing a doctor should be the first step you take to see what might be causing this problem. But, what if you were told that it could be relieved without having surgery or taking pain killers? I am going to tell you a little secret that not many people know about or do, and that has helped relieve back pain in many people up to this day.

The solution comes by doing a nerve stretch.

How in the world is a nerve stretch going to get rid of a painful back?

Nerves, unlike muscles are all connected. It's like you have one long road of them running through your body with many side roads branching off the main road. People who get back pain tend to avoid moving in a way that will cause pain in that area. As a result, they get more stiff and tight. Maybe the doctor has told you to do back strength and stretch exercises, but they are not doing much for you.

What you do need, on top of your other exercises, is to stretch your nerves. Nerves are just like muscles in that they have a blood supply too. They need to be stretched so that more blood can flow to them and the toxins causing pain can be transported out of the area. Nerves run through the muscles but just doing a simple muscle stretch doesn't mean that the nerve itself is stretching.

Also, just because you have a pain in your back, doesn't mean that you have to do a nerve stretch from your back. Remember we said that the nerves are all connected? Well this means that if you do this exercise in another part of your body, the nerves in your back can be helped too.

So how do you do this?

There are 2 ways. The first is easier, especially if you are not the supple type. The more flexible you are, the higher you will be able to raise your leg, but the height that you raise your leg doesn't mean much with regards to this exercise. So here is what you should do:

1. Find a place in your house that is flat and that you have space to stretch your leg out.
2. Stand in front of either a small stool or a step.
3. Put your heel of one leg onto the step and keep your leg as straight as possible.
4. You should be in the position as if you were doing a hamstring stretch.
5. Now gently turn your body and the leg that you are standing on, towards the raised leg.
6. Bend forward from the waist as if you were going to touch your toe.
7. Stop when you feel you cannot stretch your hamstring muscle much further.
8. Now gently pull your foot towards you (if you cannot reach your foot, then use a towel around the back of your foot)
9. Bend your chin towards your chest.
10. You should feel a burning pain moving up behind your knee.
11. Don't hold this position but gently move either your head or your foot up and down.
12. The burn will most likely move up behind your leg and into your back.
13. Do that for 45 seconds on both legs.

Please be very careful not to be in a hurry or to be aggressive in your movements when doing this exercise. Also, don't be concerned if it does feel uncomfortable. The nerves are sensitive and are not used to being stretched. That burning sensation actually means that you have found the right place and are being effective with the stretch.




Many people don't realize that a nerve stretch is totally different from a muscle stretch and that you need to do both. Many of my patients who used to suffer from back pain experienced great relief after learning about this exercise. Try it for yourself before going on heavy medication but take precaution and don't push yourself too much. There is another way of doing this exercise but you will need someone to help you do it, so for now this is the best way, because you can do it on your own and in the comfort of your own home.
