Lower Back Pain Remedies - What Are the Causes of Lower Back Pain?

If you've been suffering from lower back pain for an extended period of time (a few months), then you should consider the fact that it can be a sign of a more serious problem. Some of its causes can be a tumor, a ruptured or herniated disc, osteoporosis or osteoarthritis.

Other causes that could be the source include spinal degeneration, skeletal problems, strained ligaments or muscles, sciatica or fibromyalgia. In many cases, the diagnosis is made with the help of x-ray imaging, physical exams, computerized tomography, ultrasound imaging, discography and electro diagnostics.

Some of the lower back pain remedies include bed rest, using ice and heat, biofeedback, surgery, medications, exercise, therapy and spinal manipulation. Prolonged and persistent pain means that you should consult a doctor. If you had chronic lower back pain for a longer period of time, you will probably have to undergo some tests to find out what the cause was.

The first test will probably be a normal x-ray. It might show broken bones, fractures or vertebrae injuries. If you have ligament or muscle strain, you will probably get better if you take analgesics, ibuprofen or you do some bed rest. In some cases, cold and hot packs together with some muscle relaxers can also help. The tension and the discomfort that it brings can sometimes be fixed with relaxation techniques or massage therapy.

When the spinal column narrows, caused the wearing down of the discs, spinal degeneration takes place. You can suspect this type of lower back pain when you feel discomfort after standing or walking for longer periods or first thing when you wake up in the morning.

Stretching before getting out of bed would be the best solution in this case, as well as limiting the standing and walking periods. There are still a few benefits to exercising, but only if done a little at a time. A ruptured or herniated disc pushing against the sciatic nerve means that it's sciatica. The sciatic is a nerve, which is large, and goes from the spine to the pelvis, then down the leg.

How Can I Get Rid of Lower Back Pain?

There are many causes of lower back pain and seeing a doctor should be the first step you take to see what might be causing this problem. But, what if you were told that it could be relieved without having surgery or taking pain killers? I am going to tell you a little secret that not many people know about or do, and that has helped relieve back pain in many people up to this day.

The solution comes by doing a nerve stretch.

How in the world is a nerve stretch going to get rid of a painful back?

Nerves, unlike muscles are all connected. It's like you have one long road of them running through your body with many side roads branching off the main road. People who get back pain tend to avoid moving in a way that will cause pain in that area. As a result, they get more stiff and tight. Maybe the doctor has told you to do back strength and stretch exercises, but they are not doing much for you.

What you do need, on top of your other exercises, is to stretch your nerves. Nerves are just like muscles in that they have a blood supply too. They need to be stretched so that more blood can flow to them and the toxins causing pain can be transported out of the area. Nerves run through the muscles but just doing a simple muscle stretch doesn't mean that the nerve itself is stretching.

Also, just because you have a pain in your back, doesn't mean that you have to do a nerve stretch from your back. Remember we said that the nerves are all connected? Well this means that if you do this exercise in another part of your body, the nerves in your back can be helped too.

So how do you do this?

There are 2 ways. The first is easier, especially if you are not the supple type. The more flexible you are, the higher you will be able to raise your leg, but the height that you raise your leg doesn't mean much with regards to this exercise. So here is what you should do:

1. Find a place in your house that is flat and that you have space to stretch your leg out.
2. Stand in front of either a small stool or a step.
3. Put your heel of one leg onto the step and keep your leg as straight as possible.
4. You should be in the position as if you were doing a hamstring stretch.
5. Now gently turn your body and the leg that you are standing on, towards the raised leg.
6. Bend forward from the waist as if you were going to touch your toe.
7. Stop when you feel you cannot stretch your hamstring muscle much further.
8. Now gently pull your foot towards you (if you cannot reach your foot, then use a towel around the back of your foot)
9. Bend your chin towards your chest.
10. You should feel a burning pain moving up behind your knee.
11. Don't hold this position but gently move either your head or your foot up and down.
12. The burn will most likely move up behind your leg and into your back.
13. Do that for 45 seconds on both legs.

Please be very careful not to be in a hurry or to be aggressive in your movements when doing this exercise. Also, don't be concerned if it does feel uncomfortable. The nerves are sensitive and are not used to being stretched. That burning sensation actually means that you have found the right place and are being effective with the stretch.

Many people don't realize that a nerve stretch is totally different from a muscle stretch and that you need to do both. Many of my patients who used to suffer from back pain experienced great relief after learning about this exercise. Try it for yourself before going on heavy medication but take precaution and don't push yourself too much. There is another way of doing this exercise but you will need someone to help you do it, so for now this is the best way, because you can do it on your own and in the comfort of your own home.

Lower Back Pain - The Causes

There are many reasons why we may experience lower back pain. Some of the reasons that cause lower back pain are things like traumatic accidents, slip and falls, reaching for something, picking up an item without using the proper mechanics and poor posture. Injuries include herniated discs, fractures to the vertebrae, facet problems, spondylolesthesis, degenerate disc disease, arthritis and others. One of the most important things you can do is learn all that you can about your injury. Learn what muscles groups are involved, what positions make your pain worse, what stretches can help alleviate pain, whether ice or heat is better.

Repetitive stress or strain is another major reason why people have lower back pain. A person may pick up something that weighs 1 ½ pounds 40 times a day with bad mechanics and one day his/her lower back "goes out" and they will experience lower back pain. It was not the weight that caused the person to have lower back pain, rather the poor mechanics the person was using to lift the light weight. It's like the old saying, the straw that broke the camel's back. That's why it is important to learn good body mechanics and avoid repetitive stress situations and injuries.

Disc herniations are another major cause of lower back pain. A disc can herniate for a number of reasons including trauma, twisting and forward flexing type activities and poor body mechanics to name a few. When a disc herniates, the outer wall of the disc is compromised and the disc material begins leaking out. One of the worst positions for the spine, especially when you have a herniated disc is forward flexion and rotation which can cause the leak to increase even more.

Once the disc material begins leaking out, it can put pressure on your sensory nerves which in turn will cause pain. If the material continues to leak out, it could also affect your motor nerves which mean that your muscle strength and coordination will be affected. A microdisectomy procedure will remove only the disc material that has already leaked out. A laminectomy procedure will remove part of the bone, lamina, to provide more room for the disc material to be without putting increased pressure on the sensory or motor nerves.

Arthritis in the spine is more common as we age. An X-ray may reveal arthritis in the spine in our facet joints or areas around the vertebral bodies. Typically arthritis type of pain is dull and achy and tends to be there all the time. It has been described like a dull toothache. It may be possible to shave down some of the arthritis, but it is important to understand what movements to avoid and what muscles to strengthen.

Learning the proper body mechanics, sitting mechanics and postural mechanics is really essential in living a life without lower back pain. Understanding what type of body mechanics you need in order to lift 5 pounds versus 40 pounds is key to avoiding lower back pain. Learning how to sit properly while at work, home or for recreation can help you avoid having lower back problems. Learning to strengthen your lower leg muscles, gluts, abdominals and back muscles can really help you avoid lower back pain in the future.

Another important point is to learn how to stretch your muscles often to keep your body flexible and ready to perform the activities that you need it to. It is important for everyone to learn more about how their bodies function, how their muscles work and how to maintain good body and postural mechanics.

Chronic Lower Back Pain - You CAN Get Rid Of It!

Chronic lower back pain can be caused by quite a few different factors. The problem is, the lower back (lumbar region) is the main support for the weight bearing motions we all go through every day and is particularly susceptible to injury.

Your back is a powerful, intricately designed support system for your body that is made up of bone, muscular tissues, tendons, ligaments and discs. They have to all be in balance and work together or injury and chronic lower back pain is the result.

If we try to lift something incorrectly or take part in a strenuous physical activity (like sports) without an adequate stretch and warm-up, we could pull, strain or tear a muscle. Or, an the worst end of the spectrum, could even cause bone fractures.

Chronic Lower Back Pain - The Disc...

These same types of activities could create a bulging, slipped or herniated disc. The discs are made up of cartilage pads that act like shock absorbers between the vertebrae. They cushion the area in between the different segments of the spine.

Daily gravity, wear and tear on the discs makes the fluids seep out of them - making them less effective as shock absorbers as the day wears on. This loss of fluid can cause us to lose as much as 3/4 of an inch in height throughout the day! This is normal and the liquids are reabsorbed at night (if you get a good nights rest) but as we age, the ability to reabsorb the liquids lessens. This is commonly known as degenerative disc disease.

And these are only a few of the problems that could cause chronic lower back pain and have us searching for some severe back pain relief. There is sciatica, osteoporosis, arthritis, rheumatism, just to name a couple others.

In many cases, it is difficult to determine - even for medical professionals - what the root cause of lower back pain is. It could be something as simple as bad posture!

Chronic Lower Back Pain - Muscle Strain

But, more often than not, chronic lower back pain is caused by a soft tissue muscle strain. These can be notoriously difficult to recover from - thus the chronic lower back pain.

Research has shown that muscle strain can lead to eventual total imbalance of the spine and its structure... which in turn leads to a relentless strain on the muscle groups, ligaments, skeletal frame (bones), as well as discs, causing the lower back to be even more vulnerable to further injuries.

Whatever is causing the chronic lower back pain can eventually lead to other problems as we compensate for our injuries. For example, if you have strained a muscle you will more than likely begin to carry yourself differently to avoid the pain. In doing so, you end up over using muscles groups that weren't sore to begin with, and end up with more pain in new areas.

Stress and depression can also cause chronic lower back pain. An individual's state of mind can have a powerful impact on the height of your pain as well as whether or not it results in long lasting, chronic lower back pain. Individuals that suffer from depression, are under a huge amount of stress, or are generally unhappy will often experience symptoms and seek lower back pain relief.

Are you scared yet? You should be, I certainly am! Chronic lower back pain is nothing to fool around with.

Chronic Lower Back Pain Prevention...

If you are healthy now, get started on a daily regimen of back and abdominal exercises. These should include both stretches and strengthening. Don't forget your abdominal muscles! They help support your back more than you may imagine. And yes, if you are overweight, you need to change that.

These preventative type exercises can be done in only a few minutes a day, but can easily save you a lifetime of pain and suffering. According to CNN.com "More than 50 million Americans deal with chronic pain, at a cost of more than $100 billion annually." It is one of the leading causes of missed work! Chronic Lower Back Pain Recovery...

If you are already injured...

As always, it is best to check with your doctor to be certain of the cause, but it is likely a muscle strain. In that case, take an anti-inflammatory medication (a systemic enzyme) and apply ice for the first 48 hours. Stay away from the prescription and OTC medications, they all have well documented side effects that can literally kill you!

Our bodies naturally produce anti-inflammatory enzymes. As we age and/or when we are injured, we need to boost our systemic enzymes. As pain killers and anti-inflammatory medication, they work better than anything you are likely to be taking OTC and they have no known side effects!

Next, apply heat to get the blood flowing into the area. If there is someone that can give you a massage that is a great option. A massage will not only get the blood flowing, but will help to release our body's natural pain killing endorphins.

While injured, though the desire will be to rest, current research shows that inactivity will weaken the muscles and make the problem worse. You need to stay active...Start with some - gentle - stretches and gradually (as your back gets better) work your way into muscle strengthening routines. The good news is...You don't need to live with chronic lower back pain.

Once you become aware of some of the causes of chronic lower back pain, you can start working on the solution. Whether it is just making simple lifestyle changes or requires medical attention, you can find the help you need.

What if your chronic lower back pain just won't go away?

Highly recommended!

On my website, I have an offer of a free bottle of systemic enzyme supplements. These will help get rid of the pain and inflammation so your body can begin to heal. Don't take my word for it, get the free bottle and try it yourself! Go to my website and click on the Heal-n-Soothe Review link!

Above all, don't give up hope, it's NOT impossible. Here's even more ways to get back pain relief - click the link: Rub on Relief Review. There is a topical cream there that scientific studies shows to be 100% effective in pain relief! It just doesn't get any better than that!

I know how hard it can be to try and recover from back discomfort, but if you really want to recover you'll need to learn a single method that works amazingly well...This method is simple to pick up and it doesn't take much practice, you can read how to do it - and more - in my free report here: Severe Back Pain Relief!

Lower Back Pain

The lower back is the region connecting the upper and lower body, which bears all our weight and because of this reason, it is prone to injuries while lifting, reaching or twisting, if these activities are done carelessly. On the brighter side, lower back pain needs just some basic care, which the individual can see to and relieve the pain in a matter of weeks, in most circumstances. For more chronic cases, where pain is severe and extends to beyond a few weeks, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

Causes of lower back pain

Common cause for lower back pain is over use of the muscles and strain caused through improper bending and stretching which does not support the natural balance of the lower back muscles. Sports injuries, heavy yard work or lifting excessively heavy objects can also strain the lower back. Degeneration through age is another factor, as bones and muscles lose strength with time: the discs between the vertebrae provide less cushioning in old age and a bulging disc or a herniated one pressing on the nerves can result in lower back pain. At times, arthritis, compression fractures caused by osteoporosis (bone loss) illness or a spinal problem since birth can be probable causes too.

Symptoms and diagnosis of lower back pain

Usually, a dull, burning or sharp sensation felt at a singular point or extending over a broader area, coming on slowly or suddenly, with muscles spasms are common symptoms of lower back pain; they can be acute cases-lasting less than 3 months- if properly treated, or be recurrent in nature or even chronic (lasting over 3months). The diagnosis requires a full account of medical history, symptoms and the physical activity of the sufferer before the doctor can commit a serious cause for the lower back pain as X-rays, CT scans and MRIs are limited to cases of broken bones, cancer or an injury requiring surgery. Or, if the patient is considering a lawsuit for worker's compensation for lower back pain being caused due to any practice at the workplace.

Treatment of lower back pain and preventing recurrence.

In most cases of lower back pain, the application of ice for 5 to 15 minutes every few hours for some days is helpful. The patient could alternate with heat therapy, like hot water bottle/heating pad or a hot shower for a longer duration (15-20 minutes) for the next few days. Resting position during lower back pain should be sleeping on the side with a pillow between the knees with a couple of day's bed rest and then returning back to normal routine helps muscles to stay strong with walking being the best exercise for the lower back. Core stabilization exercises can be done gently which improve posture, keep your body's equilibrium at its optimum while lowering chances of injury too. Other safeguards include wearing low-heeled shoes, sleeping on a medium-firm mattress, avoiding lifting heavy objects and watching your weight-especially around the waist as this puts stress on the lower back.

Causes of Lower Back Pain - For People Who Want to Learn More, But Don't Know Where to Start

CAUSES OF BACK PAIN

Considering the fact that the majority or between 70 and 90 percent of the population will experience some sort of back pain at one time or another, knowledge about back pain relief is certainly welcome, appreciated and a popular topic. One of the best ways to begin learning about back pain relief is by understanding the basics of back pain: what causes it, how it's diagnosed, what treatments are available, how to manage the pain, etc.

Most references to back pain focus on lower back pain in the lumbar spinal region. However, back pain causes in no particular order are:

A. Accidents or injuries leaving muscle pain

B. Osteoarthritis with deteriorating cartilage

C. Osteoporosis with bone loss / fracture

D. Fibromyalgia

E. Major conditions like cancer

Muscle, ligament and tendon problems are generally at the root of the pain problems along with some weakness in the lower back. Other body parts in the region can also be associated like bones and small joints.

When no specific cause is apparent, the term NSLBP (nonspecific low back pain) is used. Any number of reasons for this pain can include degenerative disk disease, psychological issues, systemic disease, facet syndrome (similar to pinched nerves symptoms), herniated disk, spondylolisthesis or the forward displacement of one of the lower lumbar vertebrae over the vertebra below it or on the sacrum. Other factors could be spinal stenosis or constriction or spondyloarthropathy (disease affecting spinal joints).

Let's take a look at each of these and what pain relief solutions are available.

DEGENERATIVE DISK DISEASE - The degeneration of vertebral disks is a natural part of the aging process. What often happens though, is that when the narrowing of the disk space combines with the nociceptors, sensory receptors that respond to pain, in the outer annulus (in the disk space outside the nucleus) or dorsal root ganglion (spinal nerves) that become heightened, the result can be pain, although not always. Sometimes pain can be felt by some people, and other times not. For example a minor accident like missing a step and landing a little harder than usual on your feet might cause back pain. And certain activities can aggravate degenerative disks, like yard work or house cleaning movements. But overall, pain associated with degenerative disk disease generally heals within a few days at most. Preventative measures like strengthening muscle groups to lessen future traumas are usually recommended along with an analgesic or medication that helps relieve pain. Only in some cases are epidurals or injections, blocks or surgery needed.

PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES - If acute back pain turns into chronic stages, factors of depression, fear and anxiety could increase discomfort and pain. And the longer the chronic pain persists, the more these factors tend to play a role, an increased role over time. So treatment strategies may need to include learning coping skills and alternative lifestyle enhancements to deal with the psychological factors present.

SYSTEMIC DISEASE - This disease is the cause for up to 10% of back pain and largely among the elderly. Causes could be cancer-related or related to reduced bone mass or simply the aging process. Increasing or decreasing activities as well as switching positions all may have no affect on pain relief. Alternative therapies may be in need.

FACET SYNDROME - Similar to pinched nerves symptoms, this is believed to be associated with pain in the back's side joints and the main cause of up to 20 percent of back pain cases, with buttocks and upper leg pain increasing with long-term standing, and when switching sitting / standing / lying positions. An injection of local anesthetic into the facet joint helps determine the diagnosis. However, since the anesthetic relieves the pain at the same time and is used as a short-term solution, an x-ray doesn't help with imaging the pain results. Recommended treatment includes rigorous lumbar activities and body mechanics exercises to learn proper or more beneficial posture and movement techniques.

HERNIATED DISK - Also known as a ruptured or protruding disk, a herniated disk extends beyond its own area into a surrounding region. Compression of the nerve root can cause pain. And pressure on the fibers in surrounding ligaments can cause pain. Although an accident involving lifting could be the cause of a herniated disk, it's not necessarily so. For many, the cause is unknown; pain can occur suddenly or gradually over time. Relief for the pain can come from walking instead of sitting or standing, and surgery is rarely required right away, if at all in the event relief from pain happens within a limited amount of time. During this time (up to several weeks) any of the following might be effective to use, depending upon your healthcare provider: medication, physical therapy or non-frequently, steroid spinal injections.

SPONDYLOLISTHESIS or the forward displacement or slippage of one of the lower lumbar vertebrae (generally the fourth or fifth) over the vertebra below it or on the sacrum. This state of health is diagnosed by x-ray. Pain is believed to occur where the displacement is, at or below the displacement, or from spinal stenosis, discussed next. Depending upon the patient, strengthening exercises or a back support may be all that's required. In others, surgery may be an option.

SPINAL STENOSIS - is the constriction or narrowing of the vertebral canal. Mainly due to aging, as the gradual lessening of disk space and changes in ligaments advance upon the nerve roots below the lumbar vertebra or L2, pain can result. It's often accompanied by numbness in the legs and is not aided any by walking. Different vertebra and varied physical activities can affect the pain's location, intensity, recurring and duration. To help diagnose this condition, healthcare providers can use myelography, or an x-ray of the spinal cord after injection of air or a radiopaque substance into the subarachnoid space, with a post-CAT scan. And depending upon the patient, treatments can vary and be minor with medication if the pain gradually disappears, to epidural corticosteroid injections in the epidural, to blocks or surgery.

SPONDYLOARTHROPATHY - This term refers to a variety of diseases affecting spinal joints; arthritis variations- psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, the more common of the two and in males more often than women; and sacroiliitis, accompanies inflammatory bowels. Diagnosis consists of a physical exam, history and testing including x-rays, CAT or MRI, as the disease progresses slowly long-term fusing sacroiliac joints together and joints between vertebrae together. To relieve pain, there is treatment with exercises and physical therapy to promote better enhanced posture and mobility and some arthritic medications.

Lower Back Pain Help - Here is What You Can Do

Millions of people across the globe suffer from back pain at least once in their lives. However, not everyone is lucky enough to only have to deal with back pain only once. For many people, help is nearly impossible for them to find. However, if you do not go to your doctor to be treated for your condition it is likely that you are causing your pain to continue instead of resolving the issue.

Your cause for your back pain will be a determining factor in the treatment for your lower back pain help. For example, if you simply pulled your muscles, it is likely you will be treated with instructions for stretching your back to build the muscles, possibly an anti-inflammatory medication and some rest.

In general, a doctor will order some tests to determine the severity of your injury. These tests usually allow the doctor to see nerve damage and spinal damage. The course for treating lower back pain due to nerve damage or spinal issues is generally different than treating a muscle injury in the back.

Back pain is one of the most frustrating aliments for an individual and a doctor. It can be difficult for the doctor to diagnose the problem and often the individual can not pinpoint the cause for it. This often causes the pain to be covered up with medications and not treated at the root.

Although medication the individual often relieves the pain, it is not always the best course of treatment. If you are prescribed a medication by your doctor it is best for you to not use the medication for long periods of time. Also, if the medication does not seem to be relieving the pain, you should contact your doctor and request further testing be done.

Obtaining a proper diagnosis is the only way you are going to get the help you need. In too many cases the doctors are willing to pull out the prescription pad to cover up the root of the problem instead of treating the cause of the problem and solving the issues altogether.

It is important that you pay attention to what your body is telling you. If you know there is still a problem even after your doctor has prescribed medication for you, you can request he or she do further testing to determine the root of your back pain and finally get the help you need and deserve.

Know All the Causes and Treatments of Lower Back Pain

Back pain, this is an ailment that many people all over the world suffer from. Among the people that suffer from this ailment, the majority of them suffer from lower back pain. This type of back pain can happen to anyone, at anytime. It does not matter what age you are. In fact, the most common age group that suffers from this lower back pain is between the ages of 30 - 50. Though this age group is the most common, it does not mean that someone younger or older can not suffer from this type of back pain. What causes back pain? How can I make it stop hurting? Unfortunately, the causes and treatments of this back pain will differ with each different individual. There are many factors that we can say is the factor as to why we suffer from this ailment. One good answer is that the muscles in our lower back are either over worked or not worked enough. Too much strain on weak muscles or even tired muscles will generally result in this pain.

Though the causes of lower back pain will be different with each different person, some of the causes of lower back pain are spinal degeneration, ruptured or bulging discs, heavy lifting, sciatica, spinal stenosis, osteoporosis and age. If you have any of these ailments, you should have them treated immediately. Failure to do so can lead to this lower back pain. An example of what can happen to bulging discs if left untreated. Let's say that this has happened, the next thing would be that the disc may be forced into the spinal canal. Once there, it will lay against the nerve roots and the lumbar. This condition known as Cauda equine syndrome, will cause severe back pain and can even result in permanent neurological damage. This is just one example of why you should seek medical attention anytime that you feel you are having pains in your back.

Your posture plays a very vital role in the care of your back. People with poor posture, sitting improperly, lifting or bending can almost assuredly develop lower back pain. These factors here are the reasons as to why many companies have developed brochures and set up seminars for their companies to attend about the causes of and the ways to treat and prevent lower back pain. Why have they done this? Because so many work days are missed due to lower back pain, because the employees maybe not lifting something the way they should, slouching in their chair, or maybe it was even something as simple as bending over to pick something off of the floor. Workman's compensation puts out thousands of dollars every year on claims that are related to lower back pain. This is why it is important to practice proper ergonomics.

If you are suffering from lower back pain and are wondering how it can be treated, the answer is that the treatments will vary with each different individual and depend on how severe the pain is. If treated in a timely manner and done properly, surgery can be avoided in most cases. This is very promising as most people do not want to have to worry about undergoing surgery. One of the first things that you want to do when you hurt your back, is to place ice on the affected area for 15 minutes every few hours. In doing this for the first couple of days will help to avoid any swelling and can be the one thing that keeps the lower back pain from turning into something much more serious.

If you suffer from lower back pain, seek out medical treatment. Your doctors will always know the best ways to treat your ailments. However, it is always nice to know how your appointment might go. So here is a run down of what might happen at a visit to your doctor. The first thing that the doctor will suggest is that you take some pain reliever and some anti-inflammatory medicine for a few days. After doing this, if you are not getting better then visit the doctor again and he will want to take some X-rays. Once the X-rays are finished, unless the doctor has discovered something serious shows up, he will suggest physical therapy as a treatment. This therapy, though may feel painful when doing it, you will better for it in the long run. The exercises are designed to help ease the lower back pain so that you can get on with your life and enjoy it.

How To Get Rid Of Lower Back Pain Easily

Lower back pain is a common problem that plagues millions of people the world over. Some of the common causes of back pain are a serious fall that injured the back, pregnancy, lack of exercise or exercising in the wrong way, being overweight and sleeping on the wrong type of mattress. Fortunately, there are various methods on how to get rid of lower back pain. While an operation may be a last resort, one should consider trying some of the pain relieving methods outlined below.

Painkillers

Painkillers provide temporary relief of back pain. However, a person who has regular lower back pain should not rely on these as a sole form of treatment. It is especially detrimental for a person to continue ignoring lower back pain treatments and simply taking a painkiller to bring about temporary relief. The key to remedying back discomfort once and for all is to identify what is causing it.

Chiropractic Treatments

A chiropractor will likely be able to alleviate and perhaps even eliminate a back ache. A chiropractor will recommend a one to three month treatment course with treatments given three times a week. If the back pain is serious, the chiropractor will recommend an X-ray to determine what is causing the pain and how it should best be treated.

A person with continual lower back pain should take the time to find a good chiropractor. Do a bit of online research and find one that gets good reviews and has a good rating with the Better Business Bureau. A person who visits a chiropractor should see some improvement after the first couple of weeks of treatment.

Choosing the Right Mattress

A mattress that is too soft, too hard or too lumpy will often cause or aggravate your pain. It is important to take the time to choose the right mattress. A pregnant woman should sleep on a firm mattress that offers a high level of support. A person who experiences lower back pain while sleeping on a firm mattress may want to try a soft mattress. Memory foam mattresses are often a poor choice of mattress for those with this particular type of pain, as these mattresses do not offer much support and can in fact make a lower back pain problem worse than it was before.

While it is possible to buy a mattress online, it is often best to shop for a mattress in person. One should choose a store where he or she will be allowed to try out the mattresses before buying one. Take the time to choose a mattress that is comfortable to sleep on and will provide good support for many years.

Sleeping Postures

The position a person sleeps in can improve back pain or cause it to get worse. A person with a severe back ache should avoid sleeping on his or her stomach. Two of the best positions to sleep in are sleeping on one's side with a pillow between the legs or sleeping on one's back with a pillow under the knees for added support. An inverted position is also a good option. In such a position, the hips are elevated and/or a pillow is placed under the lower back.

Sleeping Aides

A hot or cold compress can also help a person to get a good night's sleep. However, it is important to remember that compresses do not alleviate your discomfort permanently. Compresses are like painkillers in that they take away the pain on a temporary basis.

Exercises

Exercises that help to relieve lower back pain are simple yet very effective. However, a person with severe pain in their back should never start an exercise regimen without consulting a chiropractor or medical practitioner. The wrong types of exercises can make the pain worse.

Yoga is a good form of exercise, especially for a pregnant mother who suffers from this type of pain. Yoga involves a lot of stretching, which is good for the back and will help to make one feel better. Walking is another good form of exercise for a person with lower back pain. However, it is important to invest in shoes with good support.

Diet and Weight Loss

Being overweight can contribute to pain of the back, as the body is under strain to carry the extra weight. An overweight person with this severe pain should focus on losing weight. Eating healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods will help one to not only lose weight but also keep it off. Drinking lots of water every day is also necessary; in fact, doctors recommend that a person drink at least eight cups of water a day.

Foods and beverages rich in calcium may also help to alleviate back pain. Calcium strengthens the bones; a lack of this mineral may cause lower back pain and/or make it worse. Foods and drinks that are rich in calcium include milk, yogurt and cheese.

In Summary

There is no "one, two, three" method for getting rid of lower back pain that will work for everyone. A lot depends on what is causing the pain. The first step in getting rid of lower back pain is to identify what is causing it. After the root cause has been identified, one can try out one of the appropriate cures mentioned above.

Getting rid of lower back pain may take time. One should not get discouraged if he or she tries something and it does not seem to be immediately effective. If the back pain is caused by various circumstances, one may need to try a few curative methods before the pain is gone for good.

While pain killers and compresses may provide temporary relief from your pain and discomfort, these aides do not deal with the root cause of the problem. It is important to take steps to eliminate or at least drastically reduce pain you are currently dealing with. The tips mentioned above are all simple and easy to implement. No matter what is causing a person to have lower back pain, it is often simple to remedy the problem by making a few simple changes in one's eating, sleeping and exercise habits.

Treatment For Lower Back Pain Without Medication

Back pain is definitely not an easy problem to deal with and to some it can seem like an impossible task to get rid of it. In this article I'll be going through some of the things you can do to help your back pain without having to take medication that may potentially cause side effects. I've also avoided including surgery in this list as that can be even more daunting than taking pills for most people.

· The easiest way to start trying to get rid of pain is to avoid doing things that could harm your back furniture. For example, if you spend all day lifting heavy objects then it's vital you use the correct method. I'm sure you've all seen how to lift in training videos but haven't taken much notice - don't let your back pain get worse than it has too because you're lifting wrong.

· There is some confusion about whether heat or ice is best to use for pain and the answer is that both can be effective. Some therapists even applying ice and then immediately after a heat pack to the injury to try and stimulate blood flow to the area. However before doing this you should always talk it through with your physiotherapist so you don't make the problem worse.

· Stretching is one way that many people try to get rid of back pain but unfortunately it can make things worse if you do it incorrectly. Make sure when stretching your back you do both sides evenly and that you don't overstretch. If you feel any pain then strop straight away. A good stretch should not be painful.

· If you've had back pain for a while you're sure to have come across the "use it or lose it principle". This says that if you sit around all day because your back is painful then it will only get worse. You shouldn't do anything that puts you in a lot of pain as this is the body's way of telling you something wrong, but if you lay in bed all day it may cause other problems.

These are just some of the ways of helping pain without resorting to medication. You should always visit a physiotherapist for the best advice for getting rid of your back pain quickly though to avoid making the problem worse. He or she will be able to advise you on specific exercises for reducing back pain.

What causes lower left back pain? Consultation with a medical doctor may be necessary to determine the specific cause and proper low back pain treatment options. Before seeking medical treatment, though, a look at one's lifestyle can be very helpful. Think about any possible changes, from new exercise programs to the birth of a baby.

Even something like eating new foods can cause intestinal problems which radiate to the back. Repeated motions, including exercises mean to strengthen the lower left pain can actually result in pain, if done incorrectly.

Sports injuries also can result in lower back pain. Oddly, some internal organs may be infected but the first symptom of that can also be mostly in the back, radiating outwards. The bones may not even be affected!

If a warm heating pad or even a hot cloth in a plastic bag is applied to the tender spot and the pain eases, it could be just a temporary muscle sprain. But if the pain reoccurs, seek medical help.

If the pain is not intense, try keeping a journal before seeing the doctor and coming up with the best low back pain treatment plan. Hip and Lower Back Pain - Common Causes of Lower Back Pain

Do you want to know why most people end up visiting a doctor? If lower back pain was your choice, then you would be right.

It happens so many times that it's almost unbelievable. If you combine this information with the fact that most people are less active and live longer in our time, you might guess that it is the main reason why lower back pain exists in such large numbers today.

Whatever the origin of the lower back leg pain might be, I'm sure it's very annoying. You go to a number of doctors, and nobody can help you with your problem. No cure seems to work.

It can be difficult dealing with back pain. Here are some of the things that might help you speed the healing process.

First of all, you should know that you will probably get the same treatments from doctors. You will have to answer a huge number of questions so they can understand what the problem is.

They will try to address the causes in the beginning because that decides what kind of treatment you should follow.

One of the biggest causes of back pain is stress. That happens because stress causes the muscles to tighten up. That is normal actually, since muscles need to do that in order to be able to take action.

Learning to relax is something you should learn to do. You can try going to an auction site such as eBay for example and buy a stress reduction or relaxation CD. You can find them cheap on this site.

Buy only one CD for now and listen to it on a regular basis. You can try for example to listen to it for 21 days. In the end you will see that you'll be feeling a lot better.

Something that is quite common is muscle strains. In many cases, muscle strains commonly occurs in the neck area and lower back. That is because these muscle groups tends to be more fragile and when overstretch can lead to muscle strains.

Lower back muscles are infrequent exercised therefore the chances of getting lower back pain is higher.

Lifting and stretching can be useful in most problems we mentioned so far. You should learn how to pick up objects or how to lift them. This is particularly important as you get older and your back is more fragile.

Who Else Wants to Know How to Get Rid of Lower Back Pain Once and For All - in 3 Simple Steps!

Lower Back Pain will cause you grief soon. Are you a sufferer already? Are you one of the thousands of adults that have lower back pain? Do you wake up in the morning and groan with pain as you try to get out of bed?

Just think of all the activities you could do again if you didn't have that nagging back pain. Imagine being bale to play with your children... and keep up. Wouldn't that be great?

Would you like to have a miracle cure that could remove your back pain now! Sure on the internet today you see many 'miracle cures' for lower back pain. Some will say they have the best stretches, which have never been seen before. Other will say it comes from muscles being too weak, and they have the ideal strengthening routine. There are remedies, supplements and of course medication.

Is there a 'true' miracle for curing your lower back pain? Or is it all hype and smoke clouds?

In fact, there is a miracle and it is you. Nothing magical, just 3 simple steps to understand and lower back pain can disappear and not come back.

Step 1: You Must Understand This...

No matter what you ingest, it does not remove your lower back pain. It removes the symptoms of your lower back pain only. Whether it is medication, Homeopathics, Herbs or supplements, only use them until your pain is gone. Then stop using them, after all why take something for pain if you don't have pain. Supplements of any kind are for temporary use, to eliminate your symptoms.

Step 2: Stretch or Strengthen...

Stretches and strengthening techniques work on your muscles. Muscles are part of the cause of your lower back pain. They are not the only cause though. Use muscle techniques as part of a routine to ease tension and to strengthen weakened muscles. You need to work on the muscles causing your back pain. Do that and no matter what stretch you do, you will eliminate the problem. When to stretch is more important than what to stretch. Increase strength by improving the nerve and blood supply first, then exercise.

Step 3: Attack Your Joints

The most important area for lower back pain is joint mobility. If your joints tighten then the muscles around them will tighten and others weaken. Keep your joints moving freely and life becomes more enjoyable without lower back pain. This may sound hard to do; in reality there are ways to get your joints moving freely without seeing a practitioner. See the links below.

Step 4: Brain Power...

The final piece of the puzzle is stupidity. No you do not need to be stupid to get better, and stupid people heal just as fast. But the best advice is... don't do stupid things. If pain is increasing, or not getting better... seek help. If you are in pain, do not do explosive exercises, do not aggravate, and do not do exercises or techniques that make your lower back pain worse. The old saying "no pain, no gain" is an old saying. It is not true, it is actually completely un-true. Pain says to stop doing something.

If you have lower back pain, the pain is telling you to correct the problem. It is saying please do not make me worse. It says remove my pain and remove my cause, otherwise I will return.

Lower back pain affects over 80% of adults at some stage. If you want to get rid of lower back pain once and for all then you must read this first ... the lower back pain cure!
